An alternative to in-person appointments for suitable consultations.
When it’s difficult to attend the clinic in person — such as when you’re living further from town, caring for little ones or feeling too unwell to leave home, our GPs can provide care through a secure video consultation.
Video consults are available with a select group of Pioneer GPs, allowing patients who live out of town to continue care with a regular doctor.
When to Use a Video Consult
Video consults are an alternative to in-person appointments for suitable consultations.
- Respiratory illness (such as cold or flu symptoms)
- Results or follow-up appointments
- Medical certificates
- Referrals to specialists or allied health
- Repeat prescriptions (MUST be with your GP for sleeping tablets, antibiotics, painkillers or stimulants)
Who It’s For
Our video consults are designed to make healthcare easier for:
- Patients living in rural and remote areas
- Parents and carers
- Patients who are feeling unwell and prefer to stay home
- People who have work or other commitments during clinic hours
Fees & Medicare Rebates
Fees
- Standard fees apply and you will be required to enter credit card details at time of booking. Fees will be deducted after your consult.
- Children under 16 and concession card holders can be bulk-billed if they meet the Medicare criteria below.
- Current fees for a standard appointment are: $108.85 | Medicare rebate $45.05 (if applicable) – Out of pocket $63.80
Medicare
- If you have had a face-to-face consultation at Pioneer Health within the last 12 months, you will be eligible for a Medicare rebate
- Patients who do not meet Medicare criteria are still welcome to book a video consult; however, the full consultation fee applies without a rebate (this includes children and concession card holders)
What to Expect in a Video Consult
- Book your appointment online at a time that suits you.
- You’ll receive a secure video link via SMS.
- You need a phone (or tablet / computer) and an internet connection to access the video consult.
- Your GP will discuss your concerns just as they would in person, and can provide results, medical certificates, referrals, or prescriptions if appropriate.
- If an in-person review is needed, your doctor will advise you to book a clinic visit.
