Q Fever is a severe, acute febrile illness, which is a major problem in Australia and around the world. It is a disease which is spread from animals to humans.  Cattle, sheep and goats are the main reservoirs for infection in humans. Q fever is principally an occupational infection particularly for workers in the livestock rearing and meat processing industries and in their dependent trades.

Before vaccination, your doctor must confirm that you have not previously had Q fever, as people who have already been exposed do not need the vaccine and may have a significant reaction if vaccinated. This is checked by:

● Your medical history
● A blood test
● A skin test

If all results are negative, you can safely receive the vaccine. Once vaccinated, no booster is ever required. Your vaccination will be recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) and you will be given a vaccination certificate.
